The Spring Festival is the most important festival for the Chinese people and is when all family members get together,just like Christmas in the West.All people living away from home go back.Most families make delicious food to enjoy themselves.What's more,people buy new clothes and shoes for the children as well as gifts for the elderly,friends and relatives.Children can get redpockets from their parents or relatives.
On Spring Festival Eve,all family members eat dinner together.After the dinner,the whole family will sit together,chatting and watching TV.
People in northern China will eat jiaozi,or dumplings.People play fireworks.Lion dancing,dragon lantern dancing,lantern festivals and temple fairs will be held for days.All people are very excited and happy during the Spring Festival.

The approach of the Chinese Lunar New Year poses a national issue
concerning the necessity of holding the CCTV Spring Festival Gala. Its established
status is being challenged by a growing number of people, especially by
younger generations. It is increasingly difficult to cater for all tastes.
Some individuals deem that it should be canceled or replaced by other
programs. These young people focus their attention on other forms of
celebration instead of immersing themselves in TV. Despite that, the
majority of mid-aged people and senior citizens uphold the
importance of the traditional performance. The most striking feature of
this gala is its traditionally close link with ordinary people's lives.
Most of people view this gala as an annual staple on the traditional
Chinese Spring Festival Eve. They all have a restless night and glue their
eyes on the television.
I am not supportive of the view that the grand gala should be abandoned. Undoubtedly, it plays a vital role in the celebration of Chinese New Year. To increase its appeal and meet young adults' need, the upcoming performance should invite
some big names including super stars from Hongkong and Taiwan. We are all
eagerly anticipating this unforgettable evening show.

We have lots of traditions. First, we clean our house and sweep away bad luck, and then we paint doors and windows red. It means good luck. We usually decorate the doors and windows with paper cuts. We also buy clothes and everyone has a haircut.
Our parents and grandparents give us New Year presents. They are usually new clothes. On New Year’s Day, we put on our new clothes and visit our family and friends. There is dragon and lion dancing.
The family have dinner and we jiaozi – a kind of dumpling, or a sweet rice pudding. We watch TV and at midnight there are usually fireworks. We don’t clean the house for a few days. We don’t want to sweep away good luck. And we have lots of food for good luck.
The New Year Festival finishes at Lantern Festival after two weeks. We usually eat a kind of rice dumpling called yuanxiao. They are round and so they bring us good luck all the year round.
