常用用于一般将来时,提问时用how soon
例：I will leave for Beijing in a while(我马上就去北京）
after a while=after a moment 一会儿以后,后来 常用于一般过去时,提问时用when
例：After a while,we began to have a picnic.过不久,我们就开始野餐.
类似的还有 for a while=for a little while=for a minute一会儿（表很短的一段时间）提问时用how long

纠正一下白翅鹰的一个小小的毛病：in a while 本身不是idiom,但是once in a while 是俗语。（我刚才查了词典，发现在in a while的旁边没有标明（口）或者（俗），但是once in a while 的旁边却标有(idm 习语)
