was written by the famous writer Tim Vicary.It is telling about a girl named Grace Darling who worked in a lighthouse saved nine people from the wreck of the ship Forfarshire in England in September 1838.
The book showed us an affecting story.
On the evening of 6th September,1838,there was a very wild storm at sea and the ship Forfarshire was driving in that sea.Suddenly a very big wave hit the ship so that the ship crashed into the Harker’s Rock and was broken in two.The back of the ship,with the captain and all the rich passengers,was washed away.Only twelve passengers who were in the front of the ship before got onto the Harker’s Rock.There was a lighthouse on the Farne Island near the rock.There are three people living in the lighthouse,Grace Darling,his mother and father.Fortunately,they saw the poor men near the wreck on the rock.Although Darling’s mother didn’t allow Grace to go out into the storm,Darling said to her mother,“We must try,mother.Think of those poor people,alone on that rock.We live on a lighthouse--- it’s our job!”She also said,“How will it help them if we do nothing?” Finally Grace and her father started in a heavy rowboat and went to save the people.She pulled one oar and her father pulled the other.It was hard to row against the big waves,but they still reached the wreck by their great patience and took the poor men into their boat.They rowed back to the lighthouse with them by three times and gave them clothes and delicious food.This night,they saved nine lives from the Death.Queen Victoria thought that Grace Darling is one of the finest young women in this country,and people would remember her forever.
Grace Darling was a really brave girl.Although she heard that the huge waves hit the rock and made the big voice,she was still went outside to tie the boat down without any fright and hesitation.Usually,one after another,the black and enormous waves came out from the darkness could reach ten even twenty meters high.However,Darling decided to take the boat with his father to save the men on the rock after she saw them in the storm.
And She had a kind heart.When her mother feared that she would be in danger if she went out into the storm,she was thinking about those poor people’s situation but not herself.What a kind-hearted girl she was!
She was also perfectly capable.She was only a twenty-two-year-old girl,but she was highly skilled in rowing the boat.She had experience in rowing alone in the bad storm.And she was her father’s good helper.When her brother wasn’t in the lighthouse,she helped her father to do all the things like lighting the big oil lantern.
I am very impressed by this story and Grace Darling.She was a perfect girl.I like her bravery.I like her kindness.I like her capability.I hope I will have the same advantages as she.
