MR WONG AND THE RED CROSS
Mr. Wong, an assistant maintenance supervisor at the airport, has been a frequent visitor to the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service for the past 16 years.

Mr. Wong came to know the meaning of donating blood when he was badly on need of blood about 19 years ago. He was on New Zealand in 1964 studying engineering in a university there when he suffered from profuse bleeding in the stomach. Ti was only the emergency blood transfusion that saved his life.
When he returned to Hong Kong in 1996, he had the urge to donate blood, and so the started to visit the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service. He has received several awards from the Hong Kong Red Cross as recognition of his services.
A recent figures releases by the Hong Kong Red Cross shows that at least 450 units of blood, 430 cc per units, is needed a day to satisfy the daily requests from hospitals. That means there should be at least 450 donors a day.
And, from their records, with the Hong Kong Red Cross having about180,000 active donors, it seems that there should be more people like Mr. Wong to keep up the service.
