《圣经创世纪 》说 ,人类始祖亚当 、 夏娃生了该 隐 (Cain)、 亚伯 (Abel)两兄弟.该隐妒忌亚伯赢得 上帝眼,把他杀死了,上帝罚他飘泊到 「伊 甸 东 边 挪 得 之 地 (the land of Nod,east of Eden)」.按 「挪 得 之 地 」的希伯来原文是「飘 泊 之 地 」的 意思 ,本来和睡觉没有关系；不过,英文音译做 Nod,而nod字刚巧有打盹的含义.于是 ,人们后来就用 land of Nod 一词来戏称「睡 乡 」或梦乡,
例 如 ∶ The legislator is off to the land of Nod again(那 立 法 局 议 员 又 去 了 找 周 公 ).
