Thales was the founder of European philosophy.He was the first to suggest a single material substratum for the universe,namely water,or moisture.He also believes that the entire universe was a living organism,nourished by exhalations from water.He trys to explain nature by nature itself (not by God).Thales is important in bridging the worlds of myth and reason.
