Rather than的意思是比起什么什么更倾向于什么什么,更喜欢,更重要,放在不同的句子有不同的中文解释办法.
Instead of的意思是代替,是用前面的代替后面的,强调的是代替的结果.
这两个词组有意思重叠的部分,但是各有各的用法,不能只背解释,要结合句子理解,区别自然就明白了.
